If you have kids between the ages of 4-8, I cannot recommend the game Obstacles by eeBoo highly enough.
It’s amazing.
Basically, it’s a cooperative story telling and problem solving experience.
There are no winners or losers, and there’s lots of opportunity for collaboration and encouragement as the kids flex their problem solving muscles.
You start out with a problem. The road is blocked by… a herd of sheep … or a waterfall…, and everyone had cards that represent possible solutions. Some solutions are straightforward (money for the toll gate), and some end up being very silly (put butter on the road so all the sheep slip off).
I got this game for the kids for Christmas, and they’ve wanted to play pretty much every day we’ve been home.
Today, they set it up themselves and played peacefully together for 20+ minutes until someone suddenly had a card someone else thought was theirs, but still, 20 minutes, of a seven year old and two four year olds talking together, taking turns, encouraging and supporting one another & listening to each others’ ideas… I’ll take it.
